| Hesitating online |
Clearly playing online is a different challenge for the Director. There are many infringements that occur at a table that cannot happen online - revokes, insufficient bids, playing out of turn and many more.
However, one situation that occurs more frequently is the concept of a hesitation. We all know the rules which are applied at the table - if a player hesitates for an undue length of time and then PASSes their partner must be able to fully justify any subsequent bid.
Our Directors would enforce these rules if playing at a table or in a serious competition. However, this is a friendly club, playing bridge online for the enjoyment of the game. We have all had moments of hesitation during the auction - distracted by the cat, or the phone, or simply not noticing that it is our turn to bid.
As such I ask all players to be patient and tolerant and accept that sometimes deciding what to bid just takes a bit longer online.
So please enjoy the game and be assured that no-one is deliberately hesitating in order to gain an advantage.
We have a team of Directors who give up their time to enable us to play in the evenings and the Club Committee will support their every decision, don't give them a hard time.
Enjoy your game.
Terry.
