Bd 12

Hand evaluation is  important when deciding to jump in your suit or not.

West will open 1♠

East without a fit might have bid 3 as a preemptive bid if that is what you have agreed.

With some potential support 1NT might be the best bid. Though some will pass when South will balance with 2♣ s.

Over Easts 1NT West has to decide to bid 2♠ or 3♠

16 HCPs is nnot enough when they include a J singleton and an unsupported Q., though the shape and ♣ s are good. If he bids 3♠ s East will raise to 4♠ which will go off.

Over 2♠ East will probably pass.

2 or 3♠ makes 4♠ s goes off.

Here are a couple of links to hand evaluation.

Bd 6

A great duplicate battle again. 7 different contracts out of 8 played. ♣   ♠  and NTs played.

East with a lovely hand willl open 1 planning to reverse with  s at the next opportunity..

South will pass

West will pass unless they have agreed 3♣ is preemptive bid with 6+ and weak. East will then have to decide between passing (unlikely able to get to Wests hand or bid 3 to show shape (the best bid)

If West passes North will balance 1♠ with his weak ♠ s.

East will reverse with 2

South then has a good hand for a pass so 2♠ would be weak 3 the unassuming cue bid showing a good hand (normally 10HCPs+ but as a passed hand this is probably ok))  and support of trumps is probably best. North will pass 2♠ or convert 3 to 3♠ .

If south passes 2 would be the final contract.

Bd5

Duplicate battle 21 vs 19 HCPs.

North being vulnerable is unlikely to bid a weak 2♠ s with only 5 cards.

East will pass.

South will bid 1♥

West has a choice, 2♦ or probably better to double to show support for ♠ s. The shape is not great for the double as partner will often bid ♣ s, but could correct to ♦ s.

North has a choice - pass or probably better to show the ♠ s.

East can show 8+HCPs and the unbid minors with a double.

South will rebid the ♥ s with 2♥ s

West will bid 3♦

North will probably pass.

Eat will pass.

South would like to bid, but with the adverse vulnerability and though 13HCPs with 2 unsupported Qs, it is weaker than 13 in normal play. 3♥ would have given a good result.

A difficult hand to bid and one that is difficult to play as well. 6 different results  ♦ a making 9 or 10. ♥ s making 7, 8, 9 and 10. The opponents have to do the right things as well!
