East will open 1♦
South, even though Vulnerable will probably make life difficult by bidding 3♣ rather than 2♣
East will not be able to bid with only 5 HCPs, though if South had passed, some would bid 2♠ (if this is a 6+ suit weak bid - agree with partners as some play it as a strong bid!). East's hand then looks strong opposite even a weak ♠ bid with void ♣ and Aces. 4♠ makes.
North has a difficult decision over the 3♣ bid. Great ♦ stops, 3 card support for partner's long suit. Some may punt 3N or pass?
Today the gambler won with 3NT as opposition did not find ♠ weakness. What to lead? 7♦ - fourth in longest suit allows 3NT to make. Perhaps K♠ to look for a positive signal from partner and look at dummy?
Some East's may bid 4♦ - a bit pushy without support from partner, though it makes! |
