West - 3 choices, pass, 2 or 3♦ weak or my preference 1♦ that meets the rule of 20 (HCPs + length of two longest suits) also remember if 6/4 bid more!!
If West opens 1♦, North passes
Then West has a choice of bid 1♥ or if you bid a jump to 2♥ as a weak 6 card suit, rather than stong 6 card suit.
Over 1♥ south can choose between 2♥ michaels showing 5+♠ s and 5+ in an unspecified minor or 2♠ (if 2♥ shows ♠s and ♦s (top 2 unbid suits) or 2♣ with the plan to bid ♠s to show hand shape perfectly.
Wests hand is looking good, so can bid 3♥
North with 9HCPs and 3 card support will bid 3♠
East with 6 cards will bid 4♥ s
South never showed ♣s (6♣ makes) even though vulnerable will bid 4♠ s probably over pass.
4♥ -2 is a good result for EW if N/S do not bid to game.
Alternative
Over 1♦-p-1♥ -2♣
3♥-4♣-4♥
then south can bid 4♠ to show shape perfectly.
North will see a probable double fit (though Souths 4♠ may be only 4). For that reason North will probably bid 5♣. Few will find a route to 6♣. |
