Some very aggresive Souths may bid 3♣ . 6/4 bid more. Very disruptive, but not a great help with the lead or risk with vulnerability. This would make it difficult for West who may bid 3♦ then East would either bid 3♠ that would get raised to 4♠ or may even consider passing as would need a stronger hand for 3N and risk no fit for ♠ s. Difficult decision - the space taken by a pre-emptive bid is so disruptive.
P by South
West opens with 1D.
North may bid 1♥ (7-17HCP and 5+).
Either way East bids 1♠
If N bid 1♥ west knows they have a ♠ fit and the hand looks strong.
3♠ is probably invitational, so if no agreed forcing bid, might need to bid 4♠.
East will probably pass. 4NT RKCB is not useful due to the void. His ♦ void in partner's suit is not useful. Swap the ♣s for ♦ s, slams in ♦ and♠ s would look likely.
The play in 6♠ s is interesting. It is a great example of 'restricted choice' When you play a ♠ from East the Q♠ drops. this rule says the adjacent card is likely to be in the other hand. Here is a link to Andrew Robson on restricted choice |
