A competitive battle.
East will open 1♥
South will overcall 1♠ as too strong for a weak 2♠
West should show values, short in ♠ s and possibly 5♣ s. The choice between a double and 2♣ .
Over both bids, North will bid 4♠ to the level of fit. Here is an article by Andrew Robson on level of fit.
East does not know the best suit (unless he overcalled originally with 2♣ when he would bid 5♣), so could start with 4♣ to see what West bids. A better bid would be an unusual 4NT, asking for West to bid their better minor. Over West's 5♣ North will pass as he has shown his hand. South will have to decide if 5♣ will fail when he would double, but with few defensive tricks he may bid 5♠
So final contracts could be
4♠ N/S = 420
4♠ N/S x = 590
5♣ E/W = 600
5♣ E/W x = 550
5♠ x -1 = -100 (The optimum contract)
The bidding would be more crucial in teams scoring with potential 1000 difference in scores or 14IMPs
