We look forward to seeing you.

Registered charity number 1165095

20th August 24

A good hand to check your understanding of any systems you play with partner.

South will pass.

West will have to choose between bidding 1♣ and rebidding 1NT to show in principle 12-14, but in NTs the hand is strong (Kaplan Hand evaluator shows it as 14.75HCCPs. - the ♣ s are likely to run well.) or to bid 1NT (12-14)

Over 1NT North with 20HCPs could double.

East if they have a wriggle type system will redouble to show ♣ s and try to escape. Another escape often used is redouble= ♣ s and play other bids as system on eg 2♣ = stayman and red suit transfers.

South will pass over a redouble to show no suit preference.

West will bid 2♣

North will double again for TO

East will pass.

South must not pass, he could bid 2 when North will probably bid 3 to show a strong hand, denying  s and probably showing 5+ s and 4+♠ s.

Over the 3 South will probably pass.

Over the 1NT North if they have a system to show the majors e.g. Landy they could bid 2♣ . South will bid 3 asking North to choose longest suit.

North with a very strong hand will bid 3 , which South will pass.

If West bids 1♣ North will double. East will bid 2♣  and South and West will pass.

North will bid 2 s to show 5+ s and a strong hand (18+HCPS)

South with such weak hand will pass.

If E/W compete N/S hands become stronger and they may find 4 s.

As the cards lay 4 s makes.
