Discipline or reckless?
North with a difficult hand. Great ♠ and 10 and a 1/2 HCPs. Should he open vulnerable or even non-vulnerable? If in doubt does it meet the rule of 20 - open the bidding when your high-card point-count added to the number of cards in your two longest suits gets to 20. It doesn't so pass.

Does East bid 1♠ ? 11HCPs but a lousy ♠ suit and balanced and it does not meet the rule of 20 so should pass.
South in position 3 opposite a passed hand has more leeway with pre-emptive bids so with 11HCPs, no major support a weak 2♦ is probably a good try.
West should be careful with preemptying over a prempt. 3♥- a jump would show a strong hand with very good ♥ s. A bid of 2♥ might prompt North to do a risky and here a terrible bid of 2♠ s. South with a preempt is not likely to have ♠ support. West could easily pass. which might encourage East to bid 2♠ which will give a better result (2 off -100) than 2♦ making.
If South opens 1♦ (again a very poor 11HCPs with a Q doubleton, 3Qs, but it does meet the rule of 20). Here is a good article from Larry Cohen on hand evaluation. Then West has an easy 3♥ which might encourage North to bid 3♠ which will be a disaster. 3♥ make with a great result.
So if 3 passes to West, West should pass as no one to preempt.
Lots of options, so not surprising that we had 5 /5 different results. Passing Out was 2nd best result and believe it or not I was disciplined with my partner Tim!!.
