DMBC ONLINE GAMES AVAILABLE

DMBC now has 2 online games a week available on BBO.  The first OPEN Game is scheduled for Monday April 6 at 1:15 p.m.  and the first 299er Game is Wednesday April 8 at 10:15 a.m.

You may register 2 hours before game time.  Click on the “Competitive” section on the home page, and then click on Virtual Clubs.  The games will be listed as Pairs DMBC. Click and register with your partner – you must know both user names and both be online to register.  You may pay individually, or pay for your partner.

The Open Game will be 18 boards, 6 rounds, 3 boards per round. The 299er Game will be the same. Charge is $5.00 per person - $4.00 of that comes back to our club!  You must be a member of ACBL to play in the 299er game. Temporary memberships are available.  https://my.acbl.org/membership/join

If you don’t have a partner there is a partnership feature available when you sign into register for the game.

Hope to see you at our ‘virtual’ tables!   If you are not familiar with BBO, see below for a few short videos on how to sign up and get going.

EMAIL MESSAGE FROM CLUB MANAGER TO MEMBERSHIP 3/20/2020

Good Morning everyone,

I hope you are all managing to stay busy during this unprecedented situation and have found new ways to play bridge online or otherwise with your friends and bridge partners.

I wanted to share with you some information which ACBL sent to all Club Managers on March 18.

1.     ACBL strongly recommended that all clubs close – which we had already done on March 13. As they reiterated, the health and well-being of our club players, their friends and family and the community at large is ACBL’s, and our, primary concern.

2.     ACBL confirmed that they are currently exploring online club games, so that we can continue to play (even with our own partners) while we are unable to play at our local clubs. ACBL is working with Bridge Base Online (BBO) and The Common Game on this development project that is being designed to financially benefit our club and others.

3.     On March 18 you should have received an email directly from ACBL notifying you that Starting Thursday, March 19, daily at 5 p.m. Eastern time, ACBL members can play with any other ACBL member in a specially created game on BBO and earn black masterpoints®.

If you are not already familiar with BBO, you might think about creating an account with BBO.  Be sure to link your ACBL number with your account. It is a good way to continue to earn masterpoints while we are unable to play at our local clubs. Be aware that online bridge platforms are experiencing service disruptions due to higher than usual volume, so please be patient while they work through these issues.

For your own safety, and those around you, please continue to follow the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and practice social distancing.  Since this was St Paddy’s Day week, thought you’d enjoy this.

We plan to be closed at least through March 30. At that time the Board of Directors will evaluate when it would be prudent to resume club activities. Watch the website and emails for further information.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the above.  Stay safe!

CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS
CORONAVIRUS AND FLU PRECAUTIONS

DON'T FORGET:

o   If you develop a fever, stay home.

o   If you develop a new cough, stay home as the disease is spread through respiratory droplets.

o   If you cough or sneeze, cough or sneeze into your sleeve, not your hand.

o   If you cough or sneeze into your hand, wash your hands immediately before touching other surfaces.  The disease may be transmissible by respiratory droplets deposited on a surface subsequently touched by another person.

o   If you cough into a tissue or handkerchief, discard the tissue or handkerchief immediately.  If you reuse it, respiratory droplets will get on your hands which may then be spread to other surfaces. Most of you have already seen some form of the following suggestions – we repeat them here for obvious reasons.

Additional suggestions:

o   Try not to touch your nose, mouth, or eyes!  That is the easiest way to transmit the virus to yourself.

o   NO HANDSHAKING! Use a fist bump, slight bow, elbow bump, etc.

o   Use ONLY your knuckle to touch light switches. elevator buttons, etc. Lift the gasoline dispenser with a paper towel or use a disposable glove.

o   Open doors with your closed fist or hip - do not grasp the handle with your hand, unless there is no other way to open the door. Especially important on bathroom and post office/commercial doors.

o   Use disinfectant wipes at the stores and elsewhere when they are available, including wiping the handle and child seat in grocery carts.

o   Wash your hands with soap for 10-20 seconds and/or use a greater than 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer whenever you return home from ANY activity that involves locations where other people have been.

o   Keep a bottle of sanitizer available at each of your home's entrances, AND in your car for use after getting gas or touching other contaminated objects when you can't immediately wash your hands.

Remember that each of you is the first line of defense when it comes to protecting each other against the flu or any other virus.  If we each follow the suggestions provided above it will hopefully minimize the impact of this virus not only at the Club but elsewhere as well.

Be safe and stay healthy!
