No Fear Bridge Pairs
No Fear Bridge Pairs

This friendly but competitive, all-day Bridge competition is aimed at players at the beginning of their Bridge adventure.

When Is It? Sunday, May 11, 2025 starting at 11am.

Where is It? Meldon Village Hall, Meldon, Nr Okehampton, Devon, EX20 4LU. There is plenty of parking.

Who Should Come? This competition is for you if...

  • You have the basics of duplicate Bridge under your belt and play a simple system
  • You are generally able to play without looking at your notes
  • You are already playing in a supported session at a club or are thinking about doing so

If you are not sure whether or not this competition is for you, please contact Jeremy on 07969 297633 for a chat. If you enter and we feel that you are too experienced for this competition, we will get in touch.

Format The competition will consist of five rounds of 5 boards each. We will allow up to an hour for each set of 5 boards so there is no time pressure. The format will be Swiss Pairs - if you don’t know what that means, don’t worry. It doesn’t change how you play, it just matches you with suitable opponents.

A sandwich lunch will be served after two rounds at approximately 1pm, and hot drinks will be available all day.

Help During Play We do recognise that some players may not yet be past the stage of checking notes or asking for help with the bidding so, there will be help at hand to point you in the right direction if you get completely stuck. However, since this is a competition, there needs to be a level-playing field regarding notes and advice. Therefore, you will not be allowed to refer to your notes (except between rounds) but you may ask for help. You will not be told what to do, nor will you be given direct advice, but you will get a pointer or two to help you find your way forward. The extent of this will be entirely at the discretion of the director.
