Special Social Event
Announcing a Deva Bridge Club special Social Event

Deva Bridge Club is pleased to announce a social evening with special guests from Wirral Archaeology who will give an illustrated presentation entitled - "The Battle of Brunanburh." The evening will include a light supper and a mini bridge tournament.

In 937 there occurred a mighty battle between, on one side, the Saxons and on the other a coalition of Vikings, Scots and others with the prize of uniting The British Isles under one ruler. Many experts think that this bloody battle occurred on the Wirral. Not well known, the battle is as important as Hastings and a Saxon victory led to the formation of England as a nation. The presentation will show why the Wirral is considered a likely location, a history of the Viking settlement on The Wirral, and some of the finds that Wirral Archaeology have made while field walking/metal detecting.

Date: Thursday May 8th starting at 19:00 and finishing around 22:00.

Presentation - Wirral Archaeology - The battle of Brunanburh. Followed by question and answers and examination of finds, and a light supper (Pizza or Quiche and salad) and a mini bridge tournament (depending on time available for those that want it).

Please book ASAP to allow us to work out catering requirements. Anyone seeking a partner for the bridge please contact Philip Waring at pdwaring@aol.com. Guests welcome.

£10 pp.
