Arrangements for 2025/2026 Competitions

The club year starts on 1 September - this information box summarises competitions for 2025-2026.

Our 3 major competitions with champions having their names on the club boards are an Individual Competition (The Fearn Cup), a Pairs competition (Championship Pairs) and a Teams competition (Championship Teams).

The Fearn Cup consists of a ladder competition running over 5 months (October to February) based on results in our regular duplicate sessions (Monday & Tuesday evenings and Wednesday & Friday afternoons). The top 20 individuals in the ladder qualify for the final which takes place on a Sunday and has each finalist playing 2 boards partnering each other finalist. The ladder is based on the highest percentage result in duplicate sessions with up to 3 different partners (last year it was up to 4 different partners) and will be displayed on the website.

Championship Pairs consists of a ladder competition running over 5 months (September to January) based on results in our regular duplicate sessions (Monday & Tuesday evenings and Wednesday & Friday afternoons). The top 28 pairs in the ladder qualify for one of two semi-finals and the top half of each semi-final qualify for the final. This is the same format as last year except that the semi-finals will be on two different days.

Championship Teams is the same format as last year. There will be 5 heats, 2nd Wednesday evenings in September to January, with a final on the 2nd Wednesday in February. To qualify for the final teams have to play in at least 3 heats, and there is a carry forward imp score of 20% of total imps from the 3 best heats. The 1st heat is on Wednesday 10 September.

As well as the above 3 major competitions, we have the Chester Bowl in October and Chester Congress in January, and also the ladies/mens/mixed pairs championships in April and May, the Bob Graham Individual Final in October, the Daniel Miller Cup in October, and the annual ladies vs men teams match (for the Glyn Ellis Trophy) in August. We also have a teams league and cup taking place on Thursday evenings (one or two matches a month from September to May) and participate in 4 EBU sim pairs events over the year. Dates for these and all our events can be seen in the club calendar on BridgeWebs and in the Competitions and Events document in the box above.
