Law 27 - INSUFFICENT BID

1. An insufficient bid is accepted if the offender’s LHO calls.

( any player is entitled to draw attention the misbid )

2. If it is not accepted , call the director .

It must be replaced by a legal call.

2.1 If the insufficient bid is natural ( not a convention ) it can be replaced by a sufficient natural bid of the same denomination and there is no penalty.

2.2 Any other call ( bid , pass, double or redouble ) can be made without penalty IF IT’S MEANING is wholly included within the meaning of the insufficient bid. [ The director will explain ! ]

2.3 If neither 2.1 or 2.2 holds then the insufficient bid must be replaced by any sufficient bid or pass. The PENALTY in this case is that the offender’s partner must pass throughout and the director may restrict his options when he first obtains the lead in play.
