Ted Joy, who passed away on 21st July 2019 aged 94, was born on 8th November 1924 in Exeter. He served with the Royal Engineers in Egypt and Palestine at the end of World War Two and up to 1949. Following his discharge he joined Rolls Royce as a graduate trainee engineer and went onto manage the Stress Shop. He married Irene in August 1952 and they set up home in Derby. Ted was a very keen Bridge player. He played all over Derbyshire as a member of the English Bridge Union. He was a founder member of Derby Bridge Club which was based above Brigden’s. Ted tried to encourage his children Deborah, Diana and David to play Bridge without success.
