Welcome to Deerpark Bridge Club

Deferral of Face to Face Bridge

Since the communication in mid-October ago about our planned return, COVID infection rates have deteriorated significantly, along with hospitalisations, which means we must proceed with caution.  I have been contacted by many members who are keen to return to face to face bridge with us, but do not feel the time is right yet.   There are no doubt members, particularly those not currently playing online, who have been missing bridge and will be disappointed by this news.  However, I believe that it is the right decision for the club at this time, as the safety of our members must be paramount.

Although we have decided to defer our return to the Community Centre for the time being, we will continue playing online on Monday evenings.

Annual Membership Sub

The annual membership subscription of €25 is now due.  This includes your affiliation fee to the CBAI.   Please see my recent email to members regarding payment options.

New Members

We will assess our capacity to take on new members when it is safe to do so.  If you are not a member, but are interested in joining the club, please do let me know and I will add you to our waiting list.

Thank you all for your support.

Matt Crotty RIP

I am deeply saddened to let you know, if you have not heard already, that Matt Crotty passed away in England last week. He had been ill since November last year.  Matt had played bridge way back in the sixties and only resumed with the encouragement of his mother Ita and myself about 12 years ago. He joined both St.Thereses and Deerpark where he became an entertaining partner and a formidable opponent.  His renewed interest in Bridge extended to ‘Broom’ an experiment in combining Zoom with BBO Bridge which ultimately led to the formation of our ‘Small World’ club where we run on RealBridge. When he took ill, Matt continued to play from his bed in VIncents Hospital.  Those of you who knew Matt will remember him as a good bridge player always quick with a witty remark - sometimes close to the bone! I will miss him for many reasons after the many years where he initially employed me and became my mentor and good friend.  Since these things take a long time in the UK it may be another week or so before Matt’s final return to Ireland. I understand that details of the ceremony and cremation will be provided on RIP.IE in due course.
