Cypress Duplicate Bridge Club is intended for Cypress members. However, you are welcome to join us as a guest at our games. To do so, please tell the Hilton Head Plantation gate officer that you are going to the Cypress Club house to play bridge. They will issue a gate pass for you.

Why should you want to play bridge?
Here are four really good reasons.
- Bridge requires thinking, as well as problem-solving skills, concentration, and planning to gain a good score. Unlike a lot of other card games, bridge is a game of both defense and offense. No longer do you have to complain about "never getting good cards" since your competition is defending with the same cards! That is what makes the game fun.
- As we get older, there is cognitive decline which is different in every person but it happens. Bridge keeps your brain active and stimulated and, when we play with others, the social aspects of the game keep different parts of your brain working whether taking classes or playing. If you want to make more friends, bridge is a game for you.
- Bridge is good for our immune systems. Studies have shown that the area of your brain that is used and stimulated while playing bridge is the same area of the brain that is suspected to stimulate the immune system.
- Unlike so many physical games, bridge is a lifelong game. While you can learn the basics quite easily, mastering the game takes a long time. This is why so many people play well into their 80s and 90s.

Information and News
My name is Tony Schlegel. Wendy, is my spouse of 40+ years. We are new members of the Cypress having moved here on May 1, 2025. We have resided in the Lowcountry for 24 years and are looking forward to meeting many members to enjoy the amenities that Cypress offers us. One of those which we very much enjoy is most any kind of bridge...be it duplicate bridge in small groups or large groups, party bridge at home with friends, teaching bridge to those that want to relearn the game or going to the next step in their attempt to "conquer" this game. Good luck with that! I've enjoyed managing our Bridge Club at Belfair, playing in 100s of bridge games, teaching many new bridge learners, and directing games. I look forward to assisting Cypress in making Bridge here another enjoyed amenity. I noticed that Cypress did not have a central website that focused on bridge activities, so thought I would use my previous experience to put one together for the benefit of our members. So, here is a draft of our Cypress Duplicate Bridge website for the future.
This ia a new website designed specifically for Cypress members. The objective is to provide a one-stop shop for you to view a calendar of upcoming games, previous and recent game scores, hand analysis of boards you've already played, and even how your pair did against the competition! The website is for you! So as you see ways in which we can make this even more useful to you, we're all ears. Let us know by calling Tony Schlegel - 843-304-3132 or email me at tonyaschlegel@gmail.com.
We have some thoughts on how to make our Cypress bridge a more integral part of Cypress in the future but wherever we take this great game called bridge at the Cypress, will be as joint edeavor. So stay tuned for more discussion.
The games and scores that see above are actual and if you have had previous experience with these Bridgewebs websites, you are welcome to investigate. While we are away for the summer, I'm sure that either Joe or Ricki would be happy to explain a bit about how to use the website to view how you performed on the games above.
A note of appreciation
We are fortunate to have Joe Murray and Ricki Rogers assisting us with our Cypress Bridge games and we thank them for their time. They help us set up the game, direct it and score it. We are also fortunate to have other Directors in our Beaufort and Jasper area, as well as myself, that will also provide us support as needed.
