Standing orders

1. Membership

1.1. The fee for Ordinary Membership for one academic year shall be £15.

1.2. This fee shall be discounted by £5 if membership starts after the start of Lent Full Term, and by a further £5 after the start of Easter Full Term.

1.3. The fee for Ordinary Membership for "life" (defined broadly as the time from joining the club to when a member no longer is no longer studying / in a position at the university, including any planned temporary break from residence such as intermission or a year abroad) will be £20.

1.4. The Treasurer and Secretary shall maintain lists of Ordinary and Honorary Members.

1.5. Non-students are currently eligible for the membership fee as detailed in 1.1, but cannot take advantage of the extended fee as detailed in 1.3.

1.6. Effective in academic year 2024/25: As we revised our membership fee policy, members already registered in academic year 2023/24 without an existing life membership can opt into life membership on a pro-rata basis.

2. Committee

2.1. The Committee shall meet at least once in each University Term.

3. Meetings

3.1. Club meetings shall be held on each Thursday evening during Full Term except during the Quiet Period, and one session shall be held during May Week; the Committee may direct that additional meetings be held.

3.2. Except as provided in 3.3, the Tournament Director shall organise the playing of duplicate bridge at Club meetings and there shall be table fee of £2 for Ordinary Members and £4 for non-members. There is currently no surcharge for non-students or non-juniors, but this remains under review.

3.3. Table fees are capped at £6 per year for Ordinary Members.

3.4. The Committee may impose special arrangements for particular meetings; At present, these include one free session for freshers during Michaelmas Term, free lessons for beginners during Michaelmas Term, no table fee for beginners from the preceding term during Lent Term and a free EBED Sims event for eligible players. Parties are no longer exempt from charges unless another of these arrangements applies.

4. Other Events

4.1. The Committee shall endeavour to organise free bridge lessons for members of the University during Michaelmas Full Term.

4.2. The Committee is expected to host the events as stated in the "CUBC Events" document; However, these may be withdrawn at the committee's discretion on a temporary or permanent basis at any time.

5. Elections

5.1. The elections for posts at any General meeting shall run in the order mentioned in the Constitution - President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretaries, Tournament Directors and Webmaster. Each election shall be run before nominations are taken for the next.

5.2. The elections for the roles of President and Treasurer will include the options of Re-Opening Nominations (RON).

5.3. For all other roles on the Committee, any unnopposed candidate shall be elected.

5.4. Except for the post of Tournament Director, contested elections shall be settled by instant-runoff voting; if there are only two candidates this shall take the form of a show of hands in their absence unless any member objects.

5.5. In the case of a contested election for Social Secretary or Tournament Director, and additional candidate of "No Second Social Secretary" / "No Second TD" respectively shall be added to the ballot and Single Transferable Voting using the Droop quota shall be run.

6. Firearms Statement

6.1. The club is prohibited from bringing firearms to the Freshers' Fair.

7. Current Unresolved Business

7.1. As of March 2021, CUBC is due to adopt a slogan as mandated at the 2020 AGM.

8. Logo

8.1. The Club shall adopt the logo below, making it available for use in official documentation, apparel and other club-related material.
