| CUBC Competitions Subsidies Policy |
- Competitions organised by the English Bridge Union (EBU) or the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Contract Bridge Association are automatically eligible for subsidy. Subsidies for other competitions are at the discretion of the committee. Note that competitions organised by other counties are not usually eligible.
- The CUBC fully subsidises competitions that the club organises on behalf of EBU or English Bridge Education and Development (EBED), including but not limited to club-level qualifiers of national events and simultaneous pairs events. Normal table fees still apply to these sessions (capped for members and no cap for non-members).
- All registration, and travel (subject to article 2b) will be covered by CUBC for competitions where participating teams represent the University of Cambridge to compete against representative teams of other Universities. These include but are not limited to Portland Bowl and Varsity games against Oxford.
- Where such competitions are oversubscribed, the list of players entered for such competitions shall be determined by either results of regular club sessions, or an internal qualifier event.
- Where online options are available for such competitions, travel costs will not be covered. Where online options are not available, travel costs will be covered by CUBC at the discretion of the committee.
- If the Cambridge team is travelling elsewhere, CUBC shall negotiate with the opposing team to split travel costs.
- If the opposing team is travelling to Cambridge for a face-to-face session, travel costs by the opposing team may be partially covered by CUBC, on agreement of both teams.
- For competitions where teams representing the University of Cambridge competes against non-university institutions, registration fee will be fully covered. Where online options are not available, travel costs will be will be covered up to the equivalent of the registration fee, at the discretion of the committee.
- Members are also encouraged to compete in other eligible events, for which the registration fee will be covered up to £100 per Team or £50 per Pair, and up to £50 for any individual member over an academic year.
- Where the University of Cambridge is represented, all costs shall be directly paid from CUBC. Where pre-booking of travel is not possible, reimbursements can be claimed as specified below.
- Procedure of competition subsidy where the University of Cambridge is not represented:
- Teams or partnerships shall pay the relevant costs in advance. PLEASE take special care that under-26 players are sometimes eligible for entry fees at half price. CUBC will only cover the entry fee at half price when eligible.
- Costs shall be claimed as a pair or as a team, not by individual players. Only one claim can be made per competition.
- Evidence required for reimbursement: entry form to the competition (which states the entry fee), receipt for travel costs, and evidence showing the completion of the event (e.g. a link to the results page).
- Members who fail to complete a competition where registration is subsidised by CUBC shall be excluded from all future subsidies and benefits, except in extraordinary circumstances.
