| A Brief History |
The Club was founded in 1982 by Betty Hargreaves & Clarice Waddington, two very determined ladies living in Birchwood at the time. They had a lifelong interest in the game & decided to remedy the lack of opportunities to play bridge in the area by starting their own club. The Club was known as the Birchwood Bridge Club & its members played at Parkers Farm, Risley.
Soon, the venue became too small for the growing membership, so the Club moved to the Croft Memorial Hall, where it now meets. The move to Croft & an increase in membership from that area prompted the Club to change its name in the mid-1980s to the Birchwood & Croft Bridge Club.
The Club celebrated its 21st birthday in 2003 & for the very first time, elected a man, Kevin Brennan, as its President following five ladies who had previously held the office.
Gertrude Makinson & Les Fletcher were founder members, whilst Dennis Holland was a long-serving member who left the club a legacy in his will.
