The club's purpose is to provide a friendly & relaxed environment for people with basic skills to develop into proficient players.

Come along & join us on Mondays at 6:30pm for a prompt 6:45pm start.  We look forward to seeing you.

A Brief History

The Club was founded in 1982 by Betty Hargreaves & Clarice Waddington, two very determined individuals living in Birchwood at the time. They had a lifelong interest in the game & decided to remedy the lack of opportunities to play bridge in the area by starting their own club. The Club was known as the Birchwood Bridge Club, & its members played at Parkers Farm, Risley.

Very soon, the venue became too small for the growing membership, so the Club moved to the Croft Memorial Hall, where it now meets for regular playing sessions starting at 6:45 p.m. on Monday evenings. The move to Croft & an increase in membership from that area prompted the Club to change its name in the mid-1980s to the Birchwood & Croft Bridge Club. 

The Club celebrated its 21st birthday in 2003, & for the very first time elected a man, Kevin Brennan, as its President following five ladies who had previously held the office.

Gertrude Makinson & Les Fletcher were founder members, whilst  Dennis Holland was a long-serving member who left the club a legacy from his will.

1st Monday (except for Bank Holidays):

Gertrude Makinson Competition

Duplicate bridge played with the same partner over a minimum of five sessions. Held monthly from January to December.

The trophy will be presented at our Christmas party.smiley

3rd Monday:  Handicap  Duplicate bridge played with a partner of your choice.

Other Mondays:  Pairs  Duplicate bridge played with a partner of your choice.
