Chairman’s Report

Peter reported that the club had been playing at the Crickhowell Sports Pavilion for more than a year and he felt the move had proved very successful. The room accommodated the five, six, seven and even seven and a half tables we mustered during the year. The major change during the year had been the move from BridgeMate boxes to BridgePal tablets for our electronic scoring. The set-up took a little while and a lot of help from Andy Fryer, but apart from a few minor blips, the changeover had worked out well.

Membership numbers remained healthy with 39 as of the date of the AGM.

Peter said he had recently read all the AGM minutes since the club was formed in 1985 and he stated that one recurring issue was that of noise. He appreciated that Monday evening bridge was a social evening out as well as a competitive duplicate playing evening. He asked that members kept their voices down when talking after finishing their three boards and before moving to the next table, and that noise be kept to a minimum when clearing up the tables and chairs at the end of play, particularly when some boards were still being played.

Peter thanked Mike, Phil and Nicholas for their secretarial help, financial acumen and director advice, respectively, with a  special thank you to Mike, who is vacating the post of secretary after fifteen years as a committee member.

Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer, Phil Reed, reported a surplus for the year 2024/25 of £99.19. Room rent has decreased with the move to the Sports Pavilion, but expenditure amounting to £408 had been incurred with the changeover to the BridgePal tablets. Phil highlighted other items in the accounts, copies of which were available for members to peruse. For the coming year, the club subscription would remain at £5 and the WBU/EWBA subscription would remain at £20.

Election of officers/committee

Peter, Phil and Nicholas were re-elected and Lee Wright was elected onto the committee and would take over the position of secretary.

The meeting closed at 6.50 pm.

Chairman’s Report

The Chairman told the meeting that the defining moment of the last 12 months had been the move to the Crickhowell Sports Pavilion. After 38 years at the High School/Community Centre, various factors, including an increase in room rent and a lack of a permanent base, meant it was time for a change. He thanked Phil for his help in facilitating the move.

He informed us that membership had remained healthy and we currently have 35 paid up members. Table numbers average around 5 or 6. It seems people enjoy playing at Crickhowell, which is very encouraging.

The Chairman then thanked Mike, Phil and Nicholas for making sure our scoring is up to date, our finances are sound and we don’t transgress the rules of bridge too often, respectively.

Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer reported a net income for the year 2023/24 of £611.15 mainly due to the move to the sports centre and room rent being halved. He indicated that 5 tables are needed to cover the cost of the room rent. For the coming year club fees will be reduced to £5pa, WBU/EWBA fees would be increased to £20pa.

Constitution

Members were reminded of changes to the Club Constitution circulated in a recent email, which were approved.

Election/reappointment of officers

Matters arising

The Chairman apologized for not holding the competition for the Paul McIlroy

Trophy as intended. This will be an Individual event and played as soon as

possible and decided on the night.

Chairmans’s Report

Membership remains healthy with 33 active players. Cathy Jones has left the area and sadly Roger Tod, one of the original founding members of the club passed away earlier this month.

Several new members have joined the club this year and we have welcomed holiday visitors and members from neighbouring bridge clubs.

Table numbers have held up well and our reputation as a friendly club is well recognized.

The Chairman also thanked the other members of the committee for their work over the last 12 months.

Treasurers Report

The Treasurer gave out the Account statement to 31/1/2023.

The present balance was £925.89.

The Treasurer indicated a net loss of £304.24 for the year. Six tables a week are needed to cover costs. Table money will be increased to £3 (£4 for visitors) as from 3rd April 2023.

Club fees would remain at £10 and WBU/EWBA fees would be £15.

The treasurer was asked whether it would be easier for members to pay online. This was not adopted.

Minutes of the AGM held on October 7th 2019, which had been pre-circulated, were accepted.

Chairman’s Report

Peter stated that Covid had affected playing face to face bridge for two years due to National lockdowns. He hoped the pandemic soon becomes an epidemic and we learn to live with it.

Membership numbers have gone down on pre-March 2020 levels as several long-standing members have stopped playing. A warm welcome was extended to the Brecon members who have joined our Monday duplicate sessions and he hoped some would become Crickhowell Club members as well.

Dee McIlroy has donated a trophy in memory of her husband Paul, our late Life President, who founded the club in 1985 together with some present members. More details later.

Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer had circulated the Accounts to 12/03/2022 previously. The present balance was just over £1000. He was asked about the Masterpoint item and it was indicated that the WBU needed funds apart from the WBU subs. The Chairman reminded the meeting that the WBU had bought the Club computer and Bridgemates.

Club fees would remain at £10 plus WBU fees of £10. Table money would remain at £2 with visitors £3. We need to average six tables to pay our monthly rent. Our new website (Bridgewebs) will cost £40 + VAT and is an improvement on our old one.

Election/re-appointment of committee

The present members were elected unopposed. The position of Life President will not be continued.
