EBU Events - Somerset Bridge |
Somerset Contract Bridge Association
With the start of the new season, here are the events being held over the next few months -
Nine High Events
This year, we will run a 9 high pairs event alongside each of our planned county events. These will normally finish by 7:00 pm. These are new events this year, and we welcome suggestions and feedback about the shape of these events.
Western League
This league is played on RealBridge, from September through to April. Seven matches are played by selected Somerset teams against other counties in the South West. More information can be found on the SCBA website by clicking on the link in the table above. If you would like to represent Somerset in the Western League, send a note to SCBA Selectors.
West Of England Congress
We have had to cancel the Weston Congress due to a clash with the beach races. We have been able to relocate the Green Pointed Swiss Teams event to Woolavington. We are still searching for a suitable alternative venue for both the Swiss Pairs and Championship Pairs events.

EBU rule changes |
There are 28 changes and clarifications. Here are a few that you are most likely to come across:
Opening 2NT. This is no longer needs announcing or alerting
Redoubles: showing a suit - Announce the suit. (eg exit transfers)
2 level openings: Announce. ('Weak' is less then 10, 'intermediate' is up to 12, 'strong, forcing' is most likely your Benji minor openings).
When playing 5 card Majors and a weak club, the 2 ♣ opening should be announced as 'may be 2'
