On 7th October, Corsham Bridge Club had another successful visit to The Green Room Youth Club with more than 20 young people being introduced to playing bridge, through the medium of Mini-Bridge.

Sally Weymouth, the Green Room leader, encouraged groups of 4 students at a time in from their outdoor activities to the 3 bridge tables where Wendy, Adam and Ray tutored them through the basics of bridge and got them playing Mini-Bridge. See the Green Room's facebook page here.

For some this was a new experience. Others had already played bridge with their parents or other family members.  Generally, the girls were keener to learn, whilst the boys wanted to get back out to the sports field. Nevertheless they all seemed to have a good time. Some of the boys in particular relished the opportunity to call their partners "Dummy".

We hope to be rota'd in to repeat the experience next term.

We encourage you to enter the Wiltshire Non-expert pairs which will be held on Sunday 18th October at Nursteed Centre, Devizes. This is especially aimed at those bridge players who have little or no experience of Wiltshire competitions, and who are not expert players.

All Wilts players up to and including NGS of 10 are eligible - that's nearly all of us - but the combined NGS of you and your partner must not exceed 18.

The entry fee is only £10 per pair. Not only that, but any Corsham Bridge Club pair that enters and plays will be reimbursed by The Club if they wish.

Non-Committee Positions available

For those of you who would like to get more involved with the smooth running of the Club, but hate attending committee meetings, there are a couple of opportunities available:

1.  Learn to operate the Scoring system.  For anyone who is reasonably technically savvy, this will be a doddle. Once you've been trained at the Club, you'll join the rota for Scoring (either on a Tuesday or Wednesday, whichever suits you).  We currently have 6 people trained, but (as was apparent recently) could do with more.

2. Take charge of Tuesday and Wednesday refreshments. This involves: buying milk each week, buying biscuits, tea, coffee etc as stocks require it;  making sure that someone stands in if you are not available; submitting an expenses claim (eg monthly) to the Club Treasurer. Preferably, you will be a frequent Tuesday evening player, because that's when the milk needs to be there, but otherwise individual players are responsible for making their own drinks and for clearing up afterwards.
