  History of our Club

A group of bridge players from Concord and surrounding area had been playing social bridge for some time as far back as the 1990s and before.  In 2006, Club Member Frank Sellers sanctioned the Concord Bridge Club with the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) in order that Master Points (MPs) from ACBL could be awarded for participating in the game and playing well.  The club grew over the subsequent years and in 2013 the Concord Bridge Club registered as a Non-Profit Corporation under the Non-Profit Laws of the State of North Carolina.

The Club's purpose is to educate, promote and foster national competition in bridge and to infrequently participate in health related activities that will benefit dementia research.  The education, promotion and fostering of bridge are obvious purposes but note that the participation of health related activities is not a random purpose.  It is well known and documented that participating in activities that require "brain power" and socialization are good for brain health.  Many Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement Plans recognize this power of social fitness activities, such as bridge, and are accordingly rewarding participants. Grouper (formerly Element3 Health) collaborates with these plans to encourage individuals to remain physically, socially, and mentally active. The ACBL has partnered with Grouper—to encourage more people to play bridge, have fun and socialize. ACBL members who are also enrolled in an eligible health plan can receive a free year of ACBL membership.

Since 2006 to present day, the Club provides a fun, social gathering where people compete in the game of Bridge as a sanctioned club of the ACBL.
