Return to Face-to-Face (F2F) Bridge

The Committee of the Colchester Duplicate Bridge Club is pleased to announce that, subject to changes in Government rules and restrictions, we intend to return to face-to-face (F2F) bridge at St John's & Highwoods Community Centre from Tuesday 7th September.  Details of the health and safety protocols to be adopted for secure F2F bridge will be posted on the website in due course.

Relaxed Online Wednesdays - Summer Break

Our Relaxed Online Wednesdays have been a huge success with 5 or 6 tables every week for the past 12 months.  Thank you to everyone who has participated in the sessions, we have very much enjoyed our post-play Zoom sessions with you. Now that Summer is approaching and some of the Covid restrictions are being lifted we have decided to suspend these sessions during the Summer months. Our last session before the break will be this Wednesday 19th May at 7pm as usual.  We expect to restart them again in September, an update will be posted on the Colchester and Stratford St. Mary websites in due course.  Enjoy the good weather but also continue to play bridge online and  perhaps face-to-face.  Kind regards, Peter Bushby and Michael Sherer.

ONLINE CLUB A BIG SUCCESS

The Colchester "Online Bridge Club", which began in April, has been a huge success.  Jointly with Stratford St Mary Bridge Club we have run a regular Pairs Competition on Tuesday evenings and a Supervised Play Pairs Event for improvers on Wednesday evenings.  There were a total of 299 tables in play for the four months May to August 2020, which was an average of 75 tables per month.  We hope you have enjoyed online bridge and we wish to thank you for supporting the two bridge clubs during these very difficult times.

Director Please
If you need to call the Director about a possible infringement of the laws of bridge you should a) politely inform your opponents that you are going to call the director and b) raise your hand and say "Director, please".  When the Director comes to the table the person who called him/her should state the facts of the matter concisely and politely.  There is a distinct difference between invoking the Laws of Duplicate Bridge and acting in an overbearing manner. The former is playing the game in a firm but fair manner - the latter contributes to some, often less experienced, players being put off playing at our Club.

Hesitating or asking questions is not illegal, but players should be aware that both of them compromise partner's next action. It is strongly recommended that, if you plan to Pass whatever the opponent's bid means, you delay asking questions about their bids until the auction is completed.  To see the full text of The Laws of Duplicate Bridge, click on Useful Links>EBU>EBU Information: Documents>Laws & Ethics Publications>2007 Laws of Duplicate Bridge.
Results to EBU

Results are normally submitted to the EBU on the Friday after each Tuesday's game. Any queries relating to the results should be made to the scorer prior to that time.
