As most of our members will know, Barnet a member of our club along with his wife Maggie, is an International Bridge player who has played at the highest level with a variety of famous people including Bill Gates. Listen to him talk about his career by clicking HERE
In THIS ARTICLE recently published in the International Bridge Press Association (IBPA) Barnet talks about other international Glasgow Bridge players who influenced him during his career.
Barnet’s Bio:
Barnet first represented Scotland in 1972 at 22 years old and was in Camrose teams winning 6 international championships. He represented Great Britain on 9 occasions with 4 partners Michael Rosenberg , Victor Goldberg , Willie Coyle ,and Les Steel. He has 2 wins in the World’s Premier Invitational – Sunday Times later renamed the Macallan.
After moving to the USA in 1997 he worked as a professional player and coach for more than 20 years before returning to Scotland. While in USA he won 3 National Championships and was losing finalist in the team to represent USA in the Bermuda Bowl. (that team won the Championship in Paris.)
He has 2 bronze Medals in World Championship play Seniors , one with Neil Silverman of USA and one with Brian Spears more recently in Argentina in 2024.
He is a regular contributor to magazine and newspaper columns including the International Bridge Press Bulletin.
