  Playing in Teams

♠   Workshop – Playing in Teams  ♣

This year’s excitement for the Leagues is contagious!
We have many divisions ready to compete, and for those of you who are new to this type of play, help is at hand.
Since the League kicks off in September, we’re bringing this workshop forward so you can step into the competition with confidence.

About the Workshop

This specially designed session will focus on the skills and tactics needed for team events, helping you boost both your play and results. The morning will start with an interactive lecture, followed by playing a set of linked, pre-dealt boards. You’ll also receive worksheets to complete during the workshop and have plenty of time to ask questions.

Topics include:

  • Tactics to improve your results in team events
  • Building stronger partnership understanding
  • The importance of convention cards
  • Sharpening your defence skills

Cost: £15 (includes tea/coffee)
Places: Limited to 24 participants — We may repeat the workshop if demand is high. Fill in the form if you remain interested.
Tip: It’s ideal (though not essential) to attend with your regular partner

Kindly submit your application via the website.

  Back to Basics

BACK TO BASICS
Let’s rewind to the foundations — the solid stuff everything else sits on.

If the basics aren’t clear, the auction feels uncertain… and bridge stops being fun.

Who Is This For?

This session is ideal for Beginners, Play & Learn, No Fear and Lower/middle Bronze players — a confidence top-up rather than a theory overload.

Aim: Confidence and structure, not complexity

Key message: Bridge is logical when everyone knows their job.

The Refresher Session

We’ll spend the first part of the morning revisiting the core building blocks of bidding:

• Opening bids

• Responder’s bids

• Opener’s rebids

• Responders Rebids

In other words — who starts the conversation, how partner replies, and how we continue bidding in a simple, structured way so we land in the right contract.

What We’ll Cover

• What an opening bid shows

• Simple opening rules

• Responder’s first job

• Simple rebid options

• Common landing spots

No slams. No heroics. Just getting home safely.

Play Session

After the refresher, depending on table numbers, we’re considering a mini tournament — calm, controlled, and hopefully without the usual bidding-induced trauma

Cost : £10.00 — including coffee, tea, and a relaxed morning of bridge
