♥ ♠ Play & Learn ♣ ♦
WEDNESDAY EVENING 6.50PM for 7PM start
The Play and Learn Tournament is the next step after the Beginners' Course and is designed to help build your confidence and improve your Bridge. Our broad aims are to:
-
provide a relaxed, non-competitive setting where you can practise, ask questions and learn at your own pace, using crib sheets and other learning aids.
-
offer ongoing support from experienced, approachable tutors.
-
build confidence in bidding, declarer play and defence while introducing new ideas gradually.
-
strengthen core skills such as opening and responding, basic competitive bidding, leading and signalling, and counting points and suits.
-
encourage continuous learning through regular feedback on key boards and areas to focus on next.
-
introduce tournament structure without pressure, including timekeeping, table movement and understanding the role of the Tournament Director.
You will be expected to arrive and be seated by 6.50 pm for a prompt 7.00 pm start. Initially, 10–12 boards are played at approximately 9–10 minutes per board, with a typical finishing time around 9.30 pm. All boards set by the Tournament Director must be completed before leaving. The natural progression from Play & Learn is the No Fear Tournament, details of which can be found on the Club website under Academy. A more detailed description of the aims of the Play and Learn Tournament can be found HERE and we encourage you to read these before registering.

♣ become familiar with basic tournament etiquette, including:
1. what happens if someone leads out of turn
2. the consequences of a revoke
3. when a card is considered "in play"
4. taking a card back or changing your mind
The tournament will introduce you to playing social and competitive Bridge in a structured environment, typically over 18–21 boards.
At the end of the evening:

♥ you will receive a hand record of all boards played
You will also be given the recommended auction for each board, the correct lead, and a commentary highlighting key boards, especially those involving competitive auctions or complex decisions.
