CLYDE BRIDGE CENTRE INFORMATION
CLYDE BRIDGE CENTRE INFORMATION

Three long-established Glasgow-based bridge clubs (Buchanan Bridge Club,  Glasgow Bridge Centre and St Andrew Bridge Club) voted in 2024 to amalgamate to form a new Bridge Club and this has resulted in the Clyde Bridge Centre.
The Clyde Bridge Centre has been formed as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), which has been approved and registered under the name The Hillington Bridge Club Ltd, trading as the “Clyde Bridge Centre”.
The home of the Clyde Bridge Centre is a 10,0000 square foot, two-storey light, bright building, which was formerly the headquarters of The British Red Cross in Scotland. The upper floor, which will be home to the Academy, is serviced by a lift.
Hillington is a very central location which can be easily reached by car from the North and South of Glasgow in less than 20 minutes. Residents of nearby towns such as Paisley, Dumbarton, Erskine, Greenock, Kilmarnock, Hamilton, East Kilbride, Cumbernauld and beyond will all find it an easy journey on the M8, M77, M80, M74 motorways.
The club, is scheduled to open in May 2025, following a substantial re-modelling of the new premises to create a tailor-made environment for a large bridge club. Our Bridge Academy will promote bridge to young and old, particularly in the West of Scotland and will have its own teaching and playing facilities.  A range of courses will be offered to players at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels, starting in September. Most importantly our aim is to provide outreach to schools and encourage young people to play bridge from an early age.
The membership fee is £40/annum.  If not already a member of the SBU, members would require to also join the SBU at an additional cost of £12/year. Visitors are welcome without restriction and do not need to be members of the SBU. Members will pay reduced table money.

The facilities of the Clyde Bridge Centre will  include:

  • A wide choice of playing times including morning, afternoon, evening and weekend sessions
  • A variety of standards of tournaments to meet the needs of a range of players: eg”Play & Learn” for players just out of lessons where mentors will be on hand for support; “Relaxed sessions” for those still a little nervous about ‘ moving up’; Bronze level; and Silver for advanced players.
  • A new Training Academy offering training and seminars for all levels of players
  • Use of tailor-made premises, designed to be Scotland’s best equipped Bridge centre
  • A comfortable refreshment and time-out area
  • A warm, friendly welcoming playing environment.
  • Space to play "social bridge" with your own friends

If you wish to join the Clyde Bridge Centre, the Membership Application Form can be found here and can also be downloaded from our website.
Our policies and procedures can be found on our website as well as further information.

WHAT'S HAPPENING? MARCH UPDATE

The Trustees and Implementation Group (IG) are delighted to inform you that the sale of Buchanan Bridge Club, Glasgow Bridge Centre and purchase of Centura Court in Hillington have all now been concluded (St Andrew had completed their sale previously).  A huge amount of work to marry all the processes, payments, and receipts took place and the Trustees and IG are very grateful to all those involved.

Arrangements had been agreed to allow members of the three clubs to continue to play at the the Buchanan and GBC premises until May while Centura Court is fitted out for our needs. Work will start 24th March.  Nearer the time members will be advised of the date when play will cease at these clubs and commence at in the Clyde Bridge Centre.

Members of the Clyde Bridge Centre, whether or not you are a member of one of the above clubs, are very welcome at any tournament held at either the GBC or Buchanan

TRANSPORT & PARKING

The Clyde Bridge Centre is easily accessible by car in less than 20 minutes from both the north and south of Glasgow. Bridge players, and aspiring players, from towns such as Paisley, Dumbarton and Greenock and from wide areas across the West of Scotland will also find it easy to access our club. The club has 33 private car parking space and includes designated disabled spaces. There is also plentiful free, well lit “on street” parking adjacent to the building. The club is well served by two railway stations, Hillington East and Hillington West, which are each less than a 10 minute walk away. Various buses pass the building every 15 minutes at peak times. National Cycle routes 7 and 75 are both accessible to and from the club public roads and there is a Bike Park at the Clyde Bridge Centre.

We know that some people are concerned about how they will get to and from Hillington. Under the Home Page/Contact Us tab above you will find a form to assist.  However we will start to try to put people in touch with one another who live geographically close so that they can make arrangements, either sharing a taxi or identifying someone who is prepared to offer a lift. Please click on the area below that you live in  and give your name address and phone number so we can compile a list of people in your location. ALSO IF YOU ARE PREPARED TO OFFER A "CARSHARE"  please do the same. One suggestion that seems to work for some members is that one person does the picking up and taking home, and the other pays the table money!
