President's Address at AGM

It has been an extraordinary year. Little did I know when I took over from Irene last year that we would still be playing Bridge on-line a year later.

While I can’t say I am a big fan of playing on-line, I do appreciate it is a lot better than no bridge and for some members it has been a God send, especially with so many weekly games to choose from.

We were very fortunate as a Club to be apart of CAVBC and we are indebted to all those who made it happen. Weekly meeting with Tournament Directors and Club representatives ensured weekly games ran smoothly and any difficulties were sorted. Clubs provided sub for every game. I would like to say a big Thank you to our TD’s  who have given and continue to give so generously of their time, Thank you also to all members who acted as subs over the last year. It was much appreciated. The good news is that going forward we no longer need to provide subs for every game. Robots, where needed , worked well over the summer and that will continue now the new season has started.

Anyone playing on-line will have noticed our Novice only game is now a Novice/B game as most Novices have been playing for at least two years and it was time to move on.

While not all our members have taken to playing on-line, the committee has worked hard to keep in touch with them and keep them up to date on what is happening.

All members were written to at Christmas and again at Easter.

We made a donation of behalf of the Club to St Francis’s Hospice in Raheny at Christmas and all members received a pen commemorating our 40th Anniversary at Easter.

I would like to thank all the committee members, Alan, Bernadette, Blanaid, Fintan, Irene, Nora, Olive, Owen and Una  for all their hard work and support throughout the past year. They made my job as President very easy. Una has recently resigned for personal reasons  from the committee and will be missed. Fortunately she will continue as a member and I look forward to playing with her.

I was once told by someone one that a club can survive without a president but not without a secretary  so on behalf of everyone I would like to say a very special thank you to Olive who has kept the show on the road and has been at the end of the phone line whenever I called, which I might add, was often. And I know I wasn’t the only one ringing her. Thank you.

Finally I would like to say it has been a privilege to represent you all this past.year.

Thank you Bernadette for facilitating this meeting and can I wish the new president , all the best for the coming year

Myra
