Some of you may have already heard that Joan Low, a member of the Club for many years, passed away on 7th January. Penny and Mike Bourne have asked us to convey this sad news to members of the Club. Her funeral will be at 3pm on 2nd February at Kingston Crematorium. If you would like to attend, please let Penny know on 07973 797 075 and she will give you further details.

Much of the committee plan to start a well-earned retirement next March. As we said at the last AGM, we've been doing the job for a long time. It's time for new blood—not necessarily young blood—and new ideas.

None of us is leaving the club; some of us are happy to stay on the committee but switch roles; so all the technical skills will be on hand.

Claygate has resumed weekly face-to-face play.

Here is the small print:

1. To play, you must be double-jabbed and not have any COVID symptoms on the day.
2. We will be delighted to welcome both members and non-members.
3. The table money for members is now £2.50 per session, so that pairs can present the treasurer with a £5 note when she collects it. Change will not be given.
4. The usual soft drinks will be provided. If you decide to use the Centre's cups, you must wash and dry them yourself. Of course you can still bring your own drinking vessel.

Below is the draft hosting schedule for 2024 for Claygate Bridge Club.

Apart from the seven Club Championship evenings of the year, there will be a host booked for each Monday of the year when the club operates, so that every player knows that, if they don't have a partner, they can still turn up and guarantee to get a game.

Every host will get a free evening's bridge, either on their allocated date if they play that evening, or on their next evening at the club if they didn't. As at many other clubs, if there is an even number of players, then everyone plays; if there is an odd number of players, then normally the host is the player who goes home without playing.

If the date you have been allocated isn't convenient, please try to arrange a swap with another player on this list. And please send me an email when you do arrange a swap.

If I have made a mistake, such as allocating a player two dates in 2024, please let me know.
