Club History

The Civil Service Bridge Club was established in 1946.

The initial objective of the Club was "To promote and provide facilities for the game of bridge and such other social functions as may be deemed desirable by the Committee".

The Club developed to be one of the leading bridge clubs in the country and over the years has produced many players, past and present, of international standard who have represented Ireland in European and World events.

In 1987 the Club purchased our present clubhouse at 72 Heytesbury Street. The building is of some heritage interest, details on the BuildingsOfIreland website.

The pandemic years were difficult ones for the Club however since 2023 membership has been increasing again, and the club is growing again thanks to its convenient city-centre location, the games offered (three nights a week, including Saturdays) and the lessons programme for beginners and improvers.

Like most bridge clubs, the Civil Service Bridge Club is run by its members who volunteer their services, be it as Office holders, Committee Members, Tournament Directors, or making numerous ad hoc contributions that keep the club running smoothly.
