What are Simultaneous Pairs?
In a club duplicate event all pairs endeavour to play the same set of boards, this then allows a comparison to be made to see who has played them to have the best advantage. Now imagine all around England pairs in different clubs are playing the same set of boards at the same time in a single event thus allowing comparison over the whole of the country. in essence this is what a Simultaneous Pairs event is – an event run concurrently at different clubs over a far wider area.
Participants in Simultaneous Pairs (often abbreviated to Sim Pairs or Sims) enjoy being able to compare their results with a much bigger field – literally hundreds of other pairs – from the comfort of their local club.
There is a small extra charge for SIMS but participants can download a written commentary afterwards, this gives them some idea of what they might have done on the hands. Master Points are far more generous than for a normal club event due to the larger number of competitors. It can be exciting to watch the website results and see how they change as more clubs upload their results. You can see how you did nationally soon after the event.
If there are events running on more than one day, then different sets of hands are played on each day.
Is it scary or difficult?
No. On the evening it just seems like an ordinary night at the Bridge Club, it is directed and scored in the usual way.
