Friendly BBO match against Patcham BC Result

Unfortunately we lost 0-3 to Patcham on Tuesday 9th September.  Patcham are a strong club with well attended sessions and lots of members. As a number of our stronger players were not available the contest was a bit unbalanced but many thanks to those of you who played and we hope that you enjoyed your evening despite the result!

  July 2025 Team Events

After two successful and well-received Teams matches we’ve been trying to arrange some more.  This is advance notice of what we’ve pencilled in so far.

Friendly online teams’ match with Petersfield Bridge Club - BBO at 19.00 on Wednesday 20th August

And

Friendly online teams’ match with Patcham Bridge Club - BBO at 19.30 on Tuesday 9th September

We are looking for anyone and everyone that would like to play. As we try to put together 6 teams (that’s 6 teams of 4 people, 24 in total) so this is a great opportunity for many of our Club members to take part.

It doesn’t matter whether you are experienced at tournament play, or someone who plays at our Gentle Bridge sessions, or someone somewhere in between, perhaps a regular player but not in tournaments, as you will be matched against players of a similar level to you.

The matches will be short – just 16 boards – so will probably take about 2-2 ½ hours. And all you need to do is to put yourselves forward and be online when the match starts.

Please put the dates in your diary. Details of how to enter will follow closer to the date.

Confirmation of the date (hopefully in October or November) and details of how to enter will follow closer to the date.

May 2025 Julie and Roger's Farewell Evening at the Club

We gathered to bid farewell to Julie and Roger on their final evening at the club before their move. A drinks party was held ahead of our usual teams evening, which drew a fantastic turnout with 10 tables in play. Julie and Roger will be greatly missed, and we look forward to welcoming them back for a visit in the future!

May 2025 Articles on bridge in Chichester and the history of Chichester Bridge Club

Two articles about the history of bridge in Chichester and the creation of Chichester Bridge Club as we know it are now available in the “Information” section of the website.

The first is a “social history” of bridge in Chichester prepared by Simon Westerman of Tyler Hill Bridge Club. We played a match against Tyler Hill in April 2025 and Simon prepared the article as a background to our meeting; it looks at the origins of bridge in Chichester and some of the characters from its past. As Simon explained “Many bridge clubs have pasts unknown to their members. I normally write a brief history of the club that we are playing. I have a host of resources available to do this and enjoy putting together a social history of the clubs. In fact in the EBU library which holds innumerable books there is not one on the social history of bridge or any of the clubs - all their books are about hands, players and how to play better bridge”. It is an enjoyable read.

The second article is by Julie and Roger Jones. We’d asked them before they moved away from the area to prepare a brief history on the creation of the current bridge club. Julie was Chairman of the Club for many years and the article explains how we came to our current site and our relationship with Bishop Luffa School.
