Welcome to the website of Charnwood Bridge Teachers, a teaching club affiliated to the English Bridge Union (no. 520240).
We are a group of eight experienced teachers from the Loughborough, John Storer House and Bradgate Bridge Clubs, who are offering courses of bridge lessons for beginners and improvers in the Charnwood area of Leicestershire.
The lessons usually take place at the Rothley Centre for Years 1 and 3, and at Woodhouse Eaves Village Hall for Year 2 students. The Autumn 2025 term has different arrangements as the Rothley Centre is temporarily closed - contact richard.rees227@gmail.com for further details.
It’s that time of year again - even though it seems a long way off, CBT needs to start planning for 2025-26.
TERM DATES The Autumn Term will start on October 6th. We will have venues for all three years; until we can get back into the Rothley Centre these will be:
Year 1 - Hallam Fields Hall
Year 2 – Woodhouse Eaves Village Hall (as at present)
Year 3 – Rothley Community Library
We should be back in the Rothley Centre for the start of Term 2 in January. We haven’t finalised the start date yet but it will be either 12th or 19th January.
STUDENT NUMBERS We hope to recruit a new cohort of Year 1 students – if you have any friends who you think would enjoy the game and our teaching, please ask them to get in touch with Richard. We will be running two taster sessions for absolute beginners, on 22nd and 29th September and hope to be running an Open Morning on 1st September.
If any of you are thinking of leaving us, please also let Richard know. As people move on, there are sometimes players who remain (temporarily) without a partner. We will always arrange a partner wherever we can.
If any of you want to resit a year and haven’t already resat it, please let the relevant teacher know. There will be limited room for resits in each year as we don’t want to discourage newcomers.
GRADUATES We know there will be many in Year 3 who have already done the Year twice and will be moving on.
The good news, for those of you already playing at clubs, is that we will be running our popular ‘Improve Your Duplicate’ sessions on Thursday mornings starting in January.
For those who are just playing socially, we hope that you have enjoyed the course and are looking forward to many years’ bridge.
We will also be running our Stratford away weekend next year and graduates are very welcome. For further teaching, County Bridge Club run sessions for year 3 students and I’m sure they would be pleased to see you.
With best wishes
Richard, Ruth, Gail, Jim, Stuart, Brian and Anne
