The cups are listed above in the order in which they were presented to the club.
Cayless, Cole, Hammersley, Woodier
The initial four cups were donated in 1962, the date of formation of the club. The founder members were
- Lloyd Cayless
- Mollie Cole, a member of the first committee.
- Jack and Peggy Hammersley, first secretary and assistant secretary. Jack became a life member in 1979.
- Arthur and Kitty Woodier. Arthur was a member of the first committee.
The Cayless Cup is presented to the winner of an individual event.
The Cole Tankard is presented to the individual who has collected the most masterpoints in club sessions (currently restricted to Monday evenings).
The Hammersley Cup is presented to the winners of a teams of four event.
The Woodier Cup is presented to the winners of a pairs event.
Staines, Don Smith
Next we received two cups which were used to complement the Woodier Cup. The Staines Challenge Trophy was awarded to the winners of our mixed pairs event and the Don Smith Memorial Trophy went to the winners of a same sex pairs event. The presenters were:
- Billie Staines
- Don Smith, treasurer for many years before retiring through ill health and was made a life member in 1975
Richard Buckby
To complement the Hammersley Cup teams of four the next cup was used for winners of a pivot teams of four event (at least one team member must be a lady). The presenters were:
- Richard and Margaret Buckby, founder members who served for many years on the committee. Richard was made a life member in 1980.
Wightman, Hurwich, Margaret Hill, Williams
Non-experts were very much in the minds of our next four presenters.
- Jean Wightman presented a Trophy for a non-experts pairs event. The Trophy is now awarded to the "amateur" winner in our annual pro-am event.
- David Hurwich presented us with a Quaich used for our annual teams of four handicapped summer league.
- Margaret Hill presented us with a Trophy that is now used to reward the top player on our annual holiday.
- Norman and Ann Williams. Norman directed Friday Afternoon sessions for many years when they were first introduced under Brenda Harris's stewardship. They presented us with the sister cup to the Cole Tankard which is awarded to the player scoring the highest master points in level 2 events (restricted to Non-Experts). Norman became a life member in 2005.
Win Stocker, Coltman
The Win Stocker Trophy was donated by his daughter in memory of Win who was a 'regular' player at the club until his untimely death in 2013. The trophy is awarded to the winners of our same sex pairs event (replacing the Don Smith Memorial Trophy which is now presented to the best ranked pair of the opposite sex to the winners in that event).
And finally the Coltman Trophy was given to the club in memory of Brenda Coltman by her daughters Debbie Neal, Pip Godfrey and Sue. It is presented each year to the member with the most improved NGS rating in the period 1st April to 31st March and who had an NGS grade of 4 (in excess of 41%) or higher at 1st April. If there are 2 equal improvers, the winner will be the one with the higher grade on 1st April. This was presented for the first time at the 2018 AGM.
