This year, the President's Prize was hosted by the Grattan Bridge Club, located in the Bridge Centre, St Mary's Road. The President, Anne McElwain, hosted a terrific event with almost 120 players competing. We were especially delighted to see such a big turnout in the novice section this year.

We are delighted to announce that two of Western Region players brought home the silverware from the National Pairs finals, which took place in Ennistymon, March 7th/8th.
Anne & David were the outright winners of the Inter A section.

Many congratulations to Deirdre O’Halloran, who won the 32nd WBF Women’s Online Bridge Festival over the weekend. A strong final sprint saw Deirdre surge to the top of the table, seeing off more than 1,000 competitors from all over the world, including 35 other Irish players. As overall winner, Deirdre receives free entry for herself and a partner of her choice to the Women’s Pairs Championship at the WBF World Bridge Series 2026, to be held in Katowice, Poland, as well as WBF masterpoints.

The next edition of the WBF Women’s Online Festival on BBO will take place 9–15 November 2026.

The national team of 4 events took place over the weekend in the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise, (April 18th/19th)

We entered one team into the Master section and one team into the Inter B section, but alas, no joy.

Master Section/ Kelburne Cup: Gay Keaveney & Paul Scannell / David Walsh & Enda Glynn

Inter B Section/ Tierney Trophy: Mary Earley & Lucy Mula / Mary Costello & Maura Connolly

A fantastic achievement by our Western Region player, Joan Kenny, on winning both the pairs event with her partner, Jeannie Fitzgerald (Jackson Cup), and the teams event (McMenamin Bowl) in the CBAI national events, which took place in Clane. Joan's team (Joan Kenny, Jeannie Fitzgerald, Siobhan Part, Teresa Rigney) also won the Team events  McMenamin Bowl for the third time in four years. 
Well done to Louise Mitchell and her teammates, Lucy Phelan, Ann O'Connell & Valarie Burke-Moran, who finished in 6th place overall.
And to Margaret Forde and her team, Breda Scanlon, Phil Harnett & Monica Ryan in winning the best Area Master team.

Well done to David Walsh and his teammates, Ciarán Coyne, Adam Mesbur & Tommy Garvey for finishing in a close 3rd place in the team event (Geraldine Trophy)

The qualifiers will represent the Western Region in the national pairs competition which will take place at the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, Sat the 7th & 8th March.  Book your accommodation now.
