Western Region AGM October 1st, 2021

The AGM for the Western Region AGM was held on Friday. October 1st, 2021. Due to Covid restrictions, we invited the secretary from each club to represent the members of each club.

We would like to thank our outgoing president Florence McNamara of Porumna79 Bridge Club for her dedication and hard work in the role. Florence remained a second year in position due to the pandemic.  Each year the presidency of the Western Region rotates to a different club in the region and I am pleased to announce that it is the KST club located in Galway Bridge Centre will host the presidency in 2021/22. We are waiting to hear their nomination of President.

We would also like to thank Margaret Forde who acted as secretary and Deirdre McCoy who acted as County Development Officer.

Peggy Cheevers (Caltra Bridge Club) is taking up the role as Secretary of the Western Region and Margaret Forde will act as the County Development Officer. Thanks to Michael O' Connor for his continued work as Treasurer.

Britain's Gold Cup August 2021

While we have all been beavering away on BBO playing in the Galway Bridge Centre tournaments over the summer, some of our esteemed players from the West have been doing a lot more, i.e. representing Ireland in the prestigious event, Britain's Gold Cup.

This team event took place on BBO over the summer, where all the top international players battled it out on BBO. The Irish team with 4/6 players hailing from Galway achieved fantastic success in making it to the quarter-finals and were narrowly defeated ( by just one imp).

A big congratulations to: Gay Keaveney, Enda Glynn, David Walsh, Ciaran Coyne (all from the West) and their teammates Karel De Raeymaeker & Peter Pigot ( Dublin).
