CASTLE MORPETH CHARITY NIGHT – TUES 6TH AUGUST 2019
Some of you may know that our son had his second kidney transplant four months ago after seven years on dialysis so I was delighted when we agreed to make our charity for this year Northern Counties Kidney Research Fund
The NCKRF is a registered charity whose aims are to raise funds and award grants in the north of England for research into all aspects of kidney disease, kidney transplantation and its treatment in children and adults.
Since 1970 NCKRF has with the Newcastle University Development Trust endowed seven tenured research posts in the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in nephrology, transplant surgery, urology, dialysis, renal physiology, transplant immunology and kidney/renal genetics. Typical of their research is a new and “ground breaking approach” to assessing donor kidneys by testing them in controlled conditions before a decision about a transplant is made. This means that donor kidneys that might previously have been turned down can now be used.
The fund is entirely voluntary and has no paid administrators or fundraisers. Annual expenditure is of the order of £200,000.
Thank you for your support
