Brief History of the Club and List of Office Holders
In the school year 1971-72 Mr. Harry Allan, the then Principal of St. Brigid’s National School, circulated a note to parents on the possibility of organising bridge for interested parents and friends. He and his wife Peg, who was an established bridge player, had the idea of using a bridge club, based in the school, as both a social vehicle and as a fund raiser for the school.
While our venue has changed to Our Lady’s Parish Centre fund raising for the school still remains a core objective.
Mrs. Rita Riordan, a Castleknock resident and a friend of Harry and Peg, was involved from the beginning. Rita became the club’s first President when the club came into formal existence in 1972 supported by John Macnamara as Club Secretary and Mrs. Lorimer as Treasurer. For the vibrant Bridge Club that we have today we owe a debt of gratitude to these committed and enthusiastic first officers and to the committee members who supported them.
The following is a list of the club’s Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers from 1972 to date. In listing these we also say a big thank you to the many members who served on their committees down the years. To our relatively new members and those who have not as yet had the opportunity to serve we say. ‘Please consider if you are ready to join the Club Roll of Honour!’

CBC Privacy Policy |
Castleknock Bridge Club
Privacy Policy
Castleknock Bridge Club (CBC) collects members’ data solely to allow the proper administration of duplicate bridge related activities for its members.
CBC undertakes to collect, store and use member’s data with due care and concern for security. Access to this information within the Committee of the Club is restricted on the basis of an administrative need-to-know.
The information is shared with the CBAI (Contract Bridge Association of Ireland), the governing body of the game in this country, which passes it to the Mid Leinster Region that looks after the clubs in our area. This is to facilitate the option of members participating in Regional and National competitions, and for the administration of the Masterpoint System.
A limited amount of members’ information (Name, CBAI Number and Grade) will be listed in the online competition entry database, made available to Competition and congress organisers. This is to allow recognition of our members for competition entry, and master point award purposes.
Your data may be processed by Bridgewebs, or other organisations that act as data processors for CBC. Such organisations may use our data only for the purposes for which they act as data processors. Your data may not be given to any other third parties.
All CBC members have access to the data retained on their behalf by the Club. Members are invited to contact the Club secretary to access this, and where appropriate, to have it amended. Members have the right to request limitations on the use of their information. For example, members may request that they be removed from general circulation lists.
