Bridge at Castle

Bridge at Castle is played in the Clubhouse on Monday evenings from mid-September to mid-April.  Play begins at 7:30pm.  Players are requested to be seated by 7:20pm to facilitate the organisation of the game.  All adult members of the Club are welcome to play.  Spouses of adult members are also welcome.

Bridge has been played at Castle for the best part of one hundred years.

Castle Golf Club is one of the most mature 18 hole parkland golf courses in Dublin. Hidden from the hustle and bustle of its surrounding neighbourhoods of Churchtown and Rathfarnham, Castle Golf Club offers its members and visitors unparallelled playing conditions and facilities.  The club celebrated its centenary in 2013 and the course is an excellent example of golf course design, originally by Harry Colt.

Monday Evening Game

We are planning to run two sections each Monday from now on.  All players are welcome in either section and may enter whichever section they wish.

More experienced players are encouraged to play in the GREEN section as are those players who want to play against the more experienced players.

An experienced player partnering a beginner or improver should register the pairing in the GREEN section.

Blue Game

Plays 21 or 22 boards in rounds of two or three boards per round with a time allowance of 7 minutes per board. It is a relaxed and casual game.

Green Game

Play in the Green game extends to 24 boards in rounds of 2 or 3 boards with a time allowance of 7 minutes per board (the international norm).  Play is more competitive but still friendly, just like golf.

If entries for either section are less than 5 tables we will just run one section which wil be GREEN at 7:20pm.

BLUE registration open at 5:15pm; GREEN regostration opeans at 5:20pm

Check for WhatsApp messages from 7:00pm for instructions from the TD (Tournament Director).

  • You know you're in trouble when the first thing the opponents decide to do is draw trumps, and you're the declarer.
  • The real test of a bridge player isn't in keeping out of trouble, but in escaping once he's in.
  • If 3NT is a viable proposition - then bid it.
