ACBL Clubs In and Near Carson Tahoe Area

Northern Nevada is rich with opportunities to play bridge weekly in ACBL-sanctioned games. ACBL Unit 465 includes clubs in Nevada (Gardnerville, Carson City and Incline Village) and California (South Lake Tahoe). In addition, nearby Reno (ACBL Unit 473) offers frequent games, often separated to accommodate both experienced and newer players.

Eileen Angelucci & Paul Jorgensen

Carson City: Games are conducted weekly at noon on Wednesdays in the Nevada Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 811 Beverly Drive, Carson City. Onsite parking is available but sometimes crowded because of the senior lunch program that is underway at the same time as the game. Player fees typically are $5 or $6 depending on game status (unit games and special ACBL events require the extra dollar). The director is Paul Jorgensen; his wife, Eileen Angelucci, hosts a free buffet of snacks, coffee and tea. This popular game draws people from all areas of the Carson Tahoe Valley as well as Reno, averaging about 10 tables. Snowy conditions may reduce attendance or cancel the game if the center closes.

Vicki & Glen Rowe

Gardnerville: This game is held at 12:30 on Mondays. It typically draws 4-6 tables and usually is played with a Howell movement (almost all players move, switching between N/S and E/W throughout the game). The game is at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. There is ample parking, although this site offers a senior lunch program at the same time. Player fees typically are $5 or $6 depending on game status (unit games and special ACBL events require the extra dollar). The director is Glen Rowe. Vicki Rowe offers a free buffet of snacks and coffee, and soft drinks may be purchased at the center. This game is cancelled on federal holidays that fall on Monday because the county closes the center. It is also subject to snow closures.

Barbara Jones

South Lake Tahoe: Located at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center (3050 South Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe CA), this game starts at 1:00 on Tuesdays. However, Director Barbara Jones recommends players arrive at 12:45 as the front door is locked by about 1:00. If the door is already locked, players may call 530-304-6734 to be let in. Attendance varies from 2 1/2  tables to 5 tables depending upon the season. The game uses a Howell movement where almost all players move, switching between N/S and E/W throughout the game. Coffee, hot water for tea and a variety of munchies (including on occasion homemade goodies) are offered. No games are held on federal and California state holidays and it may be closed for weather conditions. Cost of the game is $5 or $6 and small bills are preferred.

Richard Reiter

Incline Village: Taking place at the northeast tip of Lake Tahoe, the schedule and location of this seasonal game varies. During summer 2024, the game is on Sundays at 1 p.m. at the Incline Village Library, 845 Alder Avenue, Incline Village NV. Check out the Home Page listing for the most current information about time and place, or use the contact information there to reach the director for game confirmation. The director is Richard Reiter. Table fees are $6 and the director provides snacks (and encourages players to bring snacks to share).

Reno: The Mathewson Bridge Center, 125 West Plumb Lane, Reno is within driving distance for many of the ACBL members who live in Carson Tahoe ACBL Bridge Unit 465. This active club offers games every day except Wednesdays (when they encourage their players to go to the Carson City game) and Saturdays (when they often have supervised practice sessions). Information can be found on their website: www.renobridge.com.
