We are sad to announce the death of former English International David Kendrick.
Born and raised in London, David learned to play bridge at school, but his love of bridge really took off during his time at Southampton University.
He completed a rare 'trifecta', having won the Junior Camrose (in 1972 and 1974), Camrose (in 1999) and Senior Camrose - the Teltscher Trophy (in 2017). In 2019, he won a Silver Medal in the Seniors at the 44th World Bridge Teams Championships. Most recently, David represented England at the Teltscher Trophy in 2024.

Jonathan Cooke writes:
David played bridge at a very high level for 50 years. He won many of the English major competitions, including the Tollemache as part of the Cambridge team on two occasions. He played for England at Senior, Open and Junior level and he won the prestigious Swedish Chairman’s cup in 2014.
He was a very successful businessman, running a tool hire business, and, after selling that he managed a commercial property portfolio. Many of his commercial tenants benefitted from his excellent business advice over the years.
He had this habit of speaking in wonderfully repeatable one liners. Dummy would be put down invariably with the comment “Bottom of the range”, meaning he knew he really ought to have passed. When asked his system he’d frequently reply “What your granny plays”. Sadly now he’s gone, he may learn that my granny didn’t approve of the multicoloured two-diamond opener.
The County offers condolences to his family and friends.
Goodbye, David. May you rest in Peace.
