Major Competitions and Blue Points
The EBU allows clubs to hold two “major” competitions each year, one pairs and one teams, which attract blue point awards. Camberley’s major competitions are the John Warren Goblet for pairs and the Chairman’s Shield for teams.
John Warren Goblet
This is a two-round event. The qualifying round is blue-pointed at the District Scale (B, p52). The final has blue point awards to the top quarter of the original field at the District Quali-Final Scale (QB, p62). The Members’ Plate is local-pointed at the Club Scale (A, p50).
Chairman’s Shield
This is a six-session, ladder-type event. The individual sessions are local-pointed at the Club Scale (A, p50). At the end of the season the top two teams receive bonus blue points on a special scale at District Level (ie 81 and 40 blue points respectively) (paras 4.11.6 and 4.11.8, p39).
Camberley allows up to six members in a team. To qualify for the bonus points a player must have played in at least two-thirds of the six sessions (ie four times for that team).
Minor Competitions
All other club competitions are “minor” competitions, and are local-pointed at the Club Scale (A, p50).
The pairs ladders can qualify for bonus local points at the end of the season. Only one pairs ladder can qualify, so it may be preferable to “combine” them in some way into one ladder.
If just one ladder is chosen then the top four pairs would receive bonus local points on a special scale at Club Level ( ie 64, 48, 32 and 16 respectively) (para 4.11.6, p39).
If the two ladders are combined then the top four pairs would receive bonus local points at the District Level (ie 96, 72, 48 and 24 respectively) (para 4.11.8, p39).
