Welcome to Caen Bridge Club Website

Welcome to the website of Caen Bridge Club. This friendly club is affiliated to the EBU and meets for duplicate bridge on Tuesday evenings at The Christchurch Hall next to The Aggi in Braunton, North Devon.

We wish all our members and their families everything of the best during this very strange time.  Our hope is that you will all remain in good health and spirits until such time as we can resume normal activites.

It is anticipated that Club Bridge as we know it  might not resume before August or September. There is also a degree of uncertainty about how it will look in future.

In the meantime, under the auspices of North Devon Section, representatives of 5 bridge clubs ( Barnstaple, Taw Vale, Braunton, Caen and Tawton (Grosvenor) have had a meeting (on Zoom of course) to consider the future of Club Bridge in the area.

Main areas of concern included (a) the extent to which online bridge will continue, the possible impact of this, and whether we will have sufficient numbers playing face-to-face to keep the clubs running, both in terms of financial viability and members to volunteer for committees; and (b) how best to recruit and encourage new players to play club bridge.

It was agreed by all clubs that the first step would be to conduct a survey of all bridge players in North Devon to assess their expectations and opinions. This will be valuable information for planning the road ahead.  Each club will survey its own members and report back to Northern Section who will collate the results.  Please respond as fully as possible when you receive it – either by email or in the post.

NB.  North Devon Section has no authority to interfere with the running of individual clubs but is facilitating a dialogue between the various clubs.

Online Bridge during the Pandemic

Many  players in North Devon are playing online.  There are various options.  Bridgebase Online (BBO) is popular.  Go to and register with your email address and a player nickname of your choice. You can play casual games with 3 other players or set up team matches; or play in the various EBU sessions.   Real bridge ( is also gaining in popularity.

North Devon Section has set up a BBO duplicate pairs sesssion every Wednesday at 2pm.  It will qualify for both Masterpoints and NGS ranking.  There is a charge of £2 per session.  Please contact Jacqui Munns if you need any assistance getting set up to play.

All the information about getting organised and playing can also be found on the North Devon Section Website.  Just use the link on the left of this page and you will be taken to the NDS home page where you will find all the information you need to sign up.

Sally Anoyrkatis has set up a North Devon Bridge League played on Thursday evenings. Details are on the  North Devon Section website

The EBU has also set up opportunities to play, several sessions daily.  These are not free but participants qualify for Masterpoints and NGS ranking.  If you need to know more, visit the EBU website via the Useful Links menu.

Visitors are very welcome, except when teams are being played (See calendar).  Play starts at 7:00 pm so please be seated by 6:50 pm. The table money of £3.00 for visitors includes refreshments.  Please contact the Secretary or Chairman if a partner is needed.   See Information on left for more.
