Well, it is carnival time in Trinidad & Tobago tonight!
The Women’s team of Patricia Howard, Denise Josa, Deborah Fletcher, Alana Xavier, Pam Mapp & Pat Collier and Kalifa Howard (NPC) defeated the very experienced team of ladies from Guadeloupe (Franciose Mondor, Christiane Thirion, Jany Grenié, Chantal Bistoquet (C), Jacqueline Cassin and Anne Garcia) by 107 – 32 IMPs. The Guadeloupe ladies have won this event several times in recent years. I last saw the Trinidadian ladies looking for some ice-cold bubbly to celebrate their well-deserved victory.
Meanwhile the Open team of Guadeloupe (Philippe Mathieu, Luc Soudan, Jean-Claude Pelletier (C), Dominique Gerin, Rene Aragones, Eugene Gustave) were triumphant over a very strong and experienced team from Trinidad & Tobago (Trevor Hart (C), Roger Vieira, Roger Mapp, Mohan Seepersad & Shamshad Mohammed) by 92 - 54 IMPs. Guadeloupe have dominated this event over the last few championships and are to be congratulated on a well-deserved victory. There will be some champagne flowing in Guadeloupe tonight!
The Senior teams was won by the Guadeloupe team of Jeanine Moers (C), Jean Pierre Bouveresse, Kitty Baert and Sophie Fabbricatore who defeated the Martinique team (Marie Luce Rimbaud, Brigette Simonett, Antoine Edouard (C), Roland Veran and Perrine Hayot) after 9 matches.
The Mixed teams was competed for by five countries, Barbados, Costa Rica, Guadeloupe, Guatemala and Jamaica. After a single round robin of five matches Guadeloupe (Philippe Mathieu, Sophie Fabbricatore, Jany Grenie, Luc Soudan, Jeanine Mores & Jean Pierre Bouveresse) and Guatemala (Fernando Tepedino, Marianne Ruefenacht, Lili Guirola & Sergio Spinola) emerged as the leaders and entered into a 32-board final. After exchanging lots of IMPs Guadeloupe emerged as the winner 86 – 66. Congratulations on a hard fought victory.
