About Bromley North Bridge Club
About Bromley North Bridge Club

BNBC is a members' club playing on Monday evenings using Bridgemates and pre-dealt hands. It is affiliated to the EBU. Come and enjoy a good night's duplicate bridge in a pleasant and social atmosphere.

New members, guests and visitors are welcome.

The venue is Shortlands Golf Club, Meadow Road, Bromley, BR2 0DX, access via Ravensbourne Avenue. There is plenty of free parking and a bar which is open until 11pm. Blue denim jeans may not be worn. Please arrive by 7.20pm to ensure that play can start promptly at 7.30pm.

For anyone who does not have a partner, there is often a host available - details on the calendar.

Click for map and further information .

Host Duty

Just a reminder to all of what is expected when you are on host duty at the club:

Please arrive by 7:15 at the latest, report to the director and wait at the bar.

The Director will then pair you with any player who does not have a partner and a table will be found. Should two players need partners they will play together and the Host will leave.
If the Host's regular partner comes he/she should also wait at the until the Director has paired up the players.  If there are an odd number of members arriving without a partner then he/she will be paired up accordingly.

If the host needs to go home without a game, they will get a free evening the next time they come to the club.

We are trying out a new way for members to find a partner. As soon as you know you will need a partner, email iancotton@ymail.com with your contact details and Ian will contact you to let you know which other members are looking for a partner. You must do this by 4pm at the latest on the day that you want to play. There will still be a host at the club (except on competition evenings, see calendar).

Alternatively, you can put a partner request on the calendar and email other members via the website. For more information click here.

Update for members

Online Bridge

If you are a member of other local clubs, it is probably better to try out sessions that they are organising as the people mentioned are very experienced in this.  For any others, if the numbers permit, we can try and arrange friendly sessions with other club members.  These may start off as just four people playing together and as time goes on, could get more adventurous and try a small team.  Please send an email to me at hilary.powell@hotmail.co.uk if you are interested in having a friendly game as detailed above or if you want some help using BBO or BCL.

Links to bridge websites, mentioned above:

Otherwise details of other local clubs are:

Chislehurst BC, Derek Patterson arranging sessions on BBO, Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Farnborough BC, Mike Hampton arranging sessions on BBO, Wednesday and Friday evenings

Caterham BC Tony Cherrett running sessions on BBO

South Croydon running sessions on BCL

EBU 12-board games run four times every day at 2pm, 3.30pm, 7.30pm and 9.00pm on BBO

Keeping safe
With regard to self isolating, please send an email to me at hilary.powell@hotmail.co.uk or bnbc@bromleynorthbc.co.uk if you would like any help in any way or just want a chat.

Bromley Council Advice - scammers

Please be aware that during these times a small number of people with alternative ideas may seek to take advantage of the situation.  At these times please remain mindful of the following advice:

Seek assistance from trusted neighbours and friends wherever possible, or repu

table local charities and churches if this isn’t possible.

  • Only give cash to someone you know well and trust.
  • Do not give your bank card and pin number out to anybody.
  • Plan in advance as online shopping deliveries currently take over 7 days to arrive.
  • Consider alternative delivery services to the supermarket, such as the local milk man (who can deliver groceries as well as milk) or businesses delivering food locally such as “veg box” type deliveries.

If you or someone you know is being targeted by a scammer purporting to be aiding with home assistance, or any other scam then call the Rapid Response Team on 07903 852090.  In appropriate cases, officers from the Trading Standards Rogue Trading team will attend and investigate.

Best wishes and stay safe
