Starting in 2019 an annual competition in memory of Margaret Burrell has been held with a cup awarded to the individual player with the highest average score during the year. A handicap system was introduced in 2022-2023. It was decided at the 2025 AGM that the handicap would be simplified to the exclusion of the previous year’s winner. The Cup is presented at the AGM. The winners are:
-2019 - Derek Chadwick 61.93% (Pat Hunt 61.61%, Caroline Ashcroft 61.58%)
-2020 - Jointly awarded to Janet and Stuart Bell
-2021 - insufficient play due to lockdown
-2022 - Winner Stuart Bell 61.76%, joint runners up Derek Chadwick and Howard Surfleet 56.12%
-2023 - joint winners Jane Hall and Julia Booth-Brockbanks with Janis Fancett in 3rd place
-2024 winner Stuart Bell 57.31%; Pauline Boatwright 56.79%, Camilla Parikh 55.02%
- 2025 joint winners Chris and Martine Mackenzie 53.8%, runners up Chris and Ray Uphill 52.12% and Walter Million 51.95%
-2026 - until our late friend Kate Mitchell had to stop playing in February 2026 she was consistently top of the leaderboard and her usual partner Susan Hughes was a very close second (57.44% and 56.81% respectively). Kate remained top until the last couple of weeks of the competition when she was overtaken by Stuart Bell, a previous winner. Stuart has graciously stood aside so that Kate can be remembered on the cup. Julia Booth Brockbanks was third with 56.91%.
August 2026-July 2027 is an individual competition, minimum 20 games excluding results from morning practice sessions. If the difference between the top 2 players is less than 0.02% then it will be awarded jointly.
