Social Duplicate

Social Duplicate bridge continues at the BEDFORD on Tuesdays. You play with same partner throughout. Any single players are matched up and everyone is guaranteed a game. We normally play around 18/20 boards. Results are sent out promptly by email.

Electronic Scoring with smart phones using the free BriAnBridge app.

BriAn Electronic Scoring

Duplicate bridge tournaments in our group use instant elctronic scoring, thanks to an app called 'BriAn'. BriAn stands for "Bridge on iPhone and Android") and uses mobile phone technology to replace traditional tabletop scorers or paper scoring. Players can use their own smart phones or other devices such as iPads or android scoring tablets to record their scores.

We believe BriAn is a very player-friendly system that has advantages over other systems. When results are entered for each deal, the next screen shows the full lay-out of the deal, the available tricks in each suit and a full travelling score slip in a single screen. Results of previous boards and a full table of current rankings can be accessed via a  menu. The bridge director can create and modify games, adjust scores if necessary and create final files suitable for posting to the web.

If you have a suitable android or iPhone you can become a scorer simply by downloading the free BriAn Bridge app.  Go to the app shop on your device in the normal way and search for "Brian Bridge". It's free to install and easy to use. You can read more about BriAn Bridge at www.brianbridge.net. Becoming a scorer is fun but entirely optional.

Thursday Morning Online Game

Balham players combine with players from Ned Paul's group for an online duplicate every Thursday morning at 10.30am.  All welcome and partners found. We play on the videobridge platform RealBridge so you are at a virtual bridge table where you can see and talk to your opponents and your partner.  It's fun!   To register click each week on this link: https://www.brianbridge.net/cgi-bin/realbridge/npo.cgi.  Use the alphabetical index to find your name and then click on it.  This takes you to the realBridge 'lobby' where you can meet your partner or, if running single, we will find you a partner.  If not listed by name go to the bottom of the list and click 'anon' and fill in the details.

Teaching & Lessons
Monday at Gazette is Learners & Improvers Day

Every Monday except Bank Holidays, we will offering you the chance to improve your bridge in our Supervised Play group.

Just come in and join an available table between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Play deal-at-the-table social bridge, and if you need help or advice just ask our experienced tutor, KIT JACKSON, who will tell you not only what you should bid or play, but will tell you the reasoning why and how you should be thinking in that particular situation.

Supervised play is a great way to gather experience and confidence and get ready to move up to full club level.  Use these sessions for co-operative learning not for competition. Come with a partner or alone - everybody guaranteed a game.  There is no need to pre-book and you pay only for those sessions you attend. Table fee £10.00 per session,

Please let us know by email kitjackson@icloud.com (07950 779402) or ned@nedpaul.com, (07792 715517) the  first time you are going to come.

Absolute Beginners Start Here

If you are an absolute beginner we would welcome you joining us on Mondays.  We will explain how bridge works and gradually ease you into one of our Supervised Play tables.  We are beginner friendly and have a lot of experience in starting people off this way.  Everyone is very friendly and supportive and you get to play with slightly more experienced players straightaway.  Teaching notes will be supplied to support your progress at the table.  No extra fee is payable for being a beginner. If you need more info email, phone or text on the above numbers.
