Social Duplicate

Social Duplicate bridge continues at the BEDFORD on Tuesdays. You play with same partner throughout. Any single players are matched up and everyone is guaranteed a game. We normally play around 20/22 boards. Results are available on our website.

Electronic Scoring with smart phones using the free BriAnBridge app.

BriAn Electronic Scoring

Duplicate bridge tournaments in our group use instant elctronic scoring, thanks to an app called 'BriAn'. BriAn stands for "Bridge on iPhone and Android") and uses mobile phone technology to replace traditional tabletop scorers or paper scoring. Players can use their own smart phones or other devices such as iPads or android scoring tablets to record their scores.

We believe BriAn is a very player-friendly system that has advantages over other systems. When results are entered for each deal, the next screen shows the full lay-out of the deal, the available tricks in each suit and a full travelling score slip in a single screen. Results of previous boards and a full table of current rankings can be accessed via a  menu. The bridge director can create and modify games, adjust scores if necessary and create final files suitable for posting to the web.

If you have a suitable android or iPhone you can become a scorer simply by downloading the free BriAn Bridge app.  Go to the app shop on your device in the normal way and search for "Brian Bridge". It's free to install and easy to use. You can read more about BriAn Bridge at www.brianbridge.net. Becoming a scorer is fun but entirely optional.

General Information
General Information about Bridge in Balham

Bridge in Balham launched in January 2009, by Ned Paul, bridge director of Putney Bridge Club and Kit Jackson. We originally met at Harrison's in Bedford Hill. Since then we moved to Gazette brasserie in Balham High Road. After eight happy years, Gazette closed so our next venue was the The Devonshire Pub - also in Balham High Road.  In 2019 we then adopted our present venue, the Bedford pub in Bedford Hill.  Come and play friendly but good standard duplicate bridge (Tuesdays), or improve your skills by playing with other Refreshers, Improvers or Newcomers in our Monday morning Supervised Play sessions.

We are always delighted to see new players and guarantee you a personal welcome.  There is no need for single players to pre-arrange a partner – we can take care of that. Most weeks Kit is the tutor (Mondays) and the duplicate director (Tuesdays).

There is no annual subscription. Simply pay the weekly table fees only for the games in which you participate.
