SOUTH DISTRICT BRIDGE CONGRESS - SUPER! |
Thank you everyone who attended - and all those sending best wishes too - it's always a Team effort from PPC . And of course we had a great time, everyone enjoying it when any our players had a good round, and everyone commiserating, with those who didn't do so well on any session, we've all been there!
The whole event was well organised, in spite of a few challenges thrown in at the last moment, you'll hear about those I'm sure - but Ros and her merry band adapted admirably. The hotel and staff were really attentive and pleasant to deal with, and the food was excellent for such a function. It was a lovely company with everyone entering into the spirit of a friendly congress, and as usual our PPC gang, were great company and we all had fun meeting up, some for the first time face to face and others for maybe the 3rd time! It's just so great to have time to sit around face to face and have a chat and a laugh
Here's a link to the results for the 3 sessions. SBU SOUTH CONGRESS RESULTS. To look at the hands and comparative results click on the Traveller button.
Although we didnt really realise it in advance this event was a move up for from the original Meet & Play events. So what was different? Well, there were a number of more experienced pairs playing in the event. Some were teachers who had students playing and some were local experienced club players. That meant some bidding was different from what you are used to, but that's what happens in bridge, some people play slightly different systems. I'm sure these players happily explained their system if a question was raised and the main point was that all of these players appreciated it was a friendly competition and it was about taking part rather than winning. So it did make the bridge a bit more testing for everyone but that's no bad thing. It's life ! So we were all even more pleased that Margaret, Ann, Eileen ad Dave were 3rd in the Team event on the Saturday afternoon, and Dave and Anne were 3rd in the Swiss Pairs on the last day. Congratulations to them, and to all who took part so well.

Festival of Bridge - It's a Big Deal! Session 2 |
PLAYING BRIDGE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK - OUR 2nd CONTRIBUTION
SHARING THE FUN OF BRIDGE - A TASTER SESSION, with a DIFFERENCE
TUESDAY 10th SEPTEMBER 2024 6.45 pm TO 8.30 pm
We're offering the chance for anyone who hasn't played duplicate bridge before to come along and be partnered by one of our club players to take part in a taster evening of MiniBridge. It will be ONLINE using REALBRIDGE, and a fully hands on session.
So if you have a partner, friend or colleague who's ever said, What is it about bridge? or I don't really understand Bridge then maybe it's time to give them the chance to have a go. The idea is just to let people know what bridge is about and why it fascinates us. There's no expectation of these friends committing themselves to learn bridge - it's just a 1 night occasion to give non players a feel for what we get up to.
There will be no charges for taking part on the evening, but we want it to raise funds so the Purple Page Club will donate £4 per player attending to Cancer Research UK.
Again more information nearer the time, just put the date in your diary.

They are not provided in a very good format, and there are some errors incorporated (Sorry Doug Driver you don't seem to have played!). there ar ealso pairs included who don't count as they were not eligible so it's not vey accurate I'm afraid but at lest it gves you some idea how eveyone got on.
